Having worked with AELTC Wimbledon previously, surfacing specialists Spadeoak were appointed to complete emergency works to make safe an area of roadway for spectators for the forthcoming 2022 Wimbledon Championships. Spadeoak mobilised instantly and were on site within hours to survey the area and complete the works.

Having experience working at the AELTC Wimbledon, sports sector specialists Spadeoak were asked by our client to make safe an area of roadway that would be used by spectators for the forthcoming championship in one weeks time.

With the looming tournament start date within one week, security on site was tight, our teams had to ensure security checks and site inductions were planned and completed prior to any works commencing to minimise any delay.

Having a strong relationship with our client for many years, they were confident in our ability to not only complete the works with the tight timescale but ensure a quality finish to minimise disruption to the tournament build-up and strict off-site deadline. Our team was able to mobilise within hours of the call to survey the works and complete the project within the required urgent timescales.

The project was to excavate a temporary type 1 road surface that had delaminated over time and due to the severe weather conditions and to navigate around on-going construction works, and install a durable and sustainable dense binder course and SMA surface course at a combined depth of 100mm.

On site, specification of material was key to minimise damage to the surface prior to the tournament due to heavy vehicles.
